when i read coc, i was stunned that the 2 elders (theotis french & rob dibble) were on ray franz judcial committee.

i have known these men for over 20 years having done rbc and convention work with them.

they are still elders today which means they were in their early 30's(which is unheard of for a case of this importance to have inexperienced elders to sit on) on this committee.. without revealing myself, i have never tried(but have wanted to), ask them about their on having to judge a former gb member.. then out of the blue, about a year ago, i was mentioning how hard it is trying to get younger ones to volunteer to one of these elders, and he says"this is nothing compared to to sitting on the committee that had to disfellowship ray franz".

I do not know if this is a blanket statement, or directed at me.

I would say the things I have done would not be considered "Evil" by hardcore JW standards. I have never been disciplined by a JC in my theocratic life. You could say I have been a "Cowboy for the Truth", whatever that may be now. However, I have read many life stories( I started reading all the personal experiences since the begining of this website, up to page 423), and I think to myself, "I was one of those guys in some of these accounts", for which I am ashamed of now, but most in part because of my training from the Organiztion as an Elder.

One 18 year old girl(baptized), whose mother went crazy and kicked her out of the house for no reason, went to stay with some co-workers. She began to miss meetings, then stopped altogether. Fast foward 2 years later,she gets pregnant (not married)and long time Pioneer Older single Sister(Elderess), who had studied with the mother and child, goes balistic, demanding we officially DF her("We, the BOE, are ignoring her sin"). We caved to this older sister. The young girl was too embarrassed to meet with us, we DFed her.

It has been 5 years now. She works for a local grocery store and 2 years ago I went to her and apologized to her for being more concerned for the letter of the law, than the person themself. I further said, at a time she needed help, nobody was there to help her, for which I apologized for that too. She said all is good, she met and married a good man. Now, everytime I go to that store, she makes an effort to come say hi to me and my wife(even though she is DF), and I to her.

it's about a year since i started visiting this website.

it all started with the july 15 wt last year and all the changes.

lazy me had not read it online so when one bro said to me at the hall, 'have you read all the new stuff in that issue' i didn't know what he was talking about.

I just want to change the focus back to French and Dibble.

When a Judicial Committee is formed, especially for a high profile man as Ray Franz, you are to pick your most experienced Elders, not 30ish young Elders. It just blows my and makes me suspect that the Society wanted to use virtually unknown men at the time and say "Look what these young men accomplished!".

I remember talking to Felix Parnell who was a longtime PO in West Gadsden,very qualified, for a time the Assembly Overseer(now deceased), was telling me( he had my wife and I over for a meal after the Public Talk), that him and Bobby Rogers, also very qualified, Assembly Overseer and RBC Chairman (PO in Scottsboro) were involved with the investigations that led to Ray Franz coming before the JC. So why were these highly qualified Elders not on the Judicial Committee? I wished I had paid more attenion at the time, He was in a mood to talk, but then, in the 90's, that kinda stuff did not interest me. I was young and in a JW bubble.

Magnum: So is that man still a JW?

Than former Elder has been re-appointed again as an Elder recently(after 8 years off) and his son is an MS.

Knowing both of them very well now, they are real free mind thinkers, doing things on the edge that most witnesses might consider worldly traits(watching questionable movies, entertainment, going to worldly sporting events, etc). I know for a fact, this elder has always struggled with the DF arrangement, for he had to be counseled on 2 seperate occasions reaching out to DF people without going through the BOE. Why is he still in? FAMILY FAMILY FAMILY. He is 70 now, his brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren are all JW's. I have confided in him some of my struggles (overlapping generations, unfulfilled expectations,tce.), 2 years ago. He agreed with me these are legit complaints. He added that my concerns are safe with himhe and that would be honored to have me serve again with him.

Sorry James Jackson but there was an Elders Manual in hardcover book form back in the 70's. It was not as comprehensive as the current version but it was a full size hardcover publication. When I went throught Bethel Entrants School in 1974 it was part of our study curriculum.

Maybe in Bethel and some other areas you had a hardback Elders Procedure Book, but when I was appointed in 1989, the CO handed 3 booklets on directions for the Elders, each had a different copyright date, every Elder on the Body had the same booklets. 2 years later, I moved to another state and The Elders there had the same 3 booklets. Just my experience.

If you have served as an Elder and moved on quickly, then good for you. It is different for me, long entrenched ideas and reinforcement from those around you ( fellow Elders, CO's DO's, etc.).

With that said; I have personally apologized to some that I know that I have hurt. One was an Elder that I was instrumental in getting him deleted because he was a free thinker and vocal about it. I used Heb. 13:17, ... be submissive (yeilding), which includes by extention the Elder Body. When we had our Elder Meeting with the CO, we reduced this grown man to tears when he was informed of his deletion. That rest of us where very stoic, expressionless, heartless.

Then the CO asked for his keys and Shephering book, then dismissed him. Over!!!

After my deletion ( in some respects a good thing, because the koolaid lost it's effect), I went to his home, stuck out hand and apologize to this man for all the hurt I caused him and his family. Then I went to his wife and his son and apologized to them. He gave me a big hug (I got emotional), thanked me and assured me everything is alright. He let my wife and I take him and his family out for a nice meal, Now I count him as one of my close friends.

I have serveral more of like experiences, but some may find this stuff boring.

What more do you want to know about Dibble and French?

Rob Dibble is the COBE now and a Regular Pioneer along with his wife Dawn in the the North Gadsden Congregation.

Theotis French just recently retired from secular work, is an Elder in the East Gadsden Congregation (not on the Service Committee, another reason why I was shocked that he was on Franz JC for his lack of experience) and does part time work for the city of Gadsden (Public Bus Driver).

What else you want to know? I have given many Public Talks in their congregation, been out to eat with them, closer than I am letting on.

Unless you have been in my situation, it is hard to explain the mindset of a former longtime Elder(21 years), Regular Pioneer (14 years), one was at the top of his game, handling many responsibities on the Circuit and District level, serving on over 50 Judicial cases, including Appeal Committees, various Elder Schools (including Teaching parts in these schools), and even spending a week at Patterson for the COBE Kingdom Ministry School. I could go on but some of you guys are wearing me out!

Problemaddict: but was there an elders book back in the 80's? I don't recall the 80's incarnation of an elders book.

There was actually no Book; but 3 Brochere types that Elders used until the Society condensed them into 1 book in the early 90's.

MASH: James, I haven't really read your back story here, so perhaps you are out now? Potentially the details of the conversation you have posted could ultimately lead to a RL reveal.

I am still very much in Physically and very active you could say. I have been sitting on this for awhile because I do not want to be outed.

Willie Anderson, a longtime DO and CO was assigned by the Society to Gadsden AL to keep the Congregation from splitting up after Ray was DF. He lived there until he died a few years ago. His wife was interviewed at the IC in Atlanta 2 weeks ago.
